Angkor Beer

Brewery: Cambrew
Style: Lager
ABV: 5%
Country number: 110
Bought at: Drinks of the World and sent to a friend in Billund, Denmark who then shipped it to Norway. Huge thanks to Aleksander Rødland!
Date: 25/05/2018
My Untappd rating: 2.50

Just like last weeks beer this is one of the two beers I ordered from Drinks of the World that got shipped to a friend in Denmark who then shipped it to me. And just like last week I like to thank Aleksander Rødland helping me cross another country of the list.

The beer is dark golden in colour with a centimeter high foam head that quickly disappears. The taste is flat with a sweetness similar to non-alcoholic malt beverages. Very little aftertaste as well. Only thing that saves it is that it is ice cold on a unusually hot day in Stavanger.

I’m finally back with a beer from a new country! Or at least new on the blog. I actually had this beer once before at World of Beer in Port Orange, USA, but since that was before I got the Untappd app I haven’t registered it. By crossing this of the list it also means that I have crossed of all the different countries that I tried at World of Beer before getting the app. You can read more about which countries these were in the Welcome post from last year here. Just like some of the other beers I’ve had I found this one online, more precisely at Drinks of the World, and as experienced so many times before they did not ship to Norway. Luckily I have some great friends living all over the world so I kindly asked a friend living in Denmark if I could ship the beer to him so that he then could ship it to me in Norway. Once again huge thanks to Aleksander Rødland!

The beer is pale golden in colour with a foamy white head. It tastes crisp and sweet with a nice malty bitterness. The finish is sweet and long with a tiny hint of citrus to it. A nice way to cross of another country after six weeks with revisits!

Japan

Asahi Super Dry

Brewery: Asahi Breweries
Style: Lager
ABV: 5%
Country number: 6
Bought at: Takeya Japanese Steak House in Ormond Beach, USA
Date: 11/05/2014
My Untappd rating: 3.25

Doing these revisits of the beers I’ve had before I started the blog brings back a lot of good memories from the time I was living in Daytona Beach. One of those good memories is the restaurant Takeya Japaneses Steak House in nearby Ormond Beach. The beef served at Takeya is one of the most tender pieces of meat I have ever tasted, and of course they also served Japanese beer. I remember that they had both Asahi and Sapporo and that I picked Asahi the first time at the restaurant after I got the Untappd app.

The beer is golden in colour with a nice amount of bubbles in it. No significant foam on top and it tastes light and malty. It finishes off on a more sweet note that doesn’t last for too long. All in all a normal massproduced lager.

Red Stripe

Brewery: Desmoes and Geddes
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.7%
Country number: 5
Bought at: Somewhere in Daytona Beach, USA
Date: 27/04/2014
My Untappd rating: 2.75

Only two more weekends with revisits of beers I had before starting the blog. After that I will finally bring you some reveiws of beers I’ve never tried before. This week I’m back with another beer I had while living in Daytona Beach, USA, and as before I can’t quite remember where I bought it. Given Red Stripes global presence this is one of those exotic countries that many people have tried the local beer from.

The beer is dark golden in colour with a small foam head. Carbonation is rather weak and the beer tastes flat with just a tiny hint of malt before it fades over to a more sweet finish.

USA

USA

Landshark Lager

Brewery: Margaritaville Brewing Company
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.6%
Country number: 4
Bought at: Somewhere in Daytona Beach, USA
Date: 13/04/2014
My Untappd rating: 3.25

Many of the smaller countries I’ve tried beer from only have one or two different beerbrands. But for the larger countries where I have tried multiple beers from the same country it is the first beer from that country that I have registered in this blog. This means that when I’m doing this revisit of USA, Landshark Lager is the first beer that I registered from USA on Untappd. Like the three previous posts, I first had this back in 2014 when I was living in Daytona Beach.

The beer is clear golden in colour with a thin white head. It tastes crisp and malty with a sweet finish. Hint of malty bitterness in the ending.

Imperial

Brewery: Productura La Florida
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.5%
Country number: 3
Bought at: Somewhere in Daytona Beach, USA
Date: 29/03/2014
My Untappd rating: 2.75

This week I’m reviewing country number 3. This is a beer that I had multiple times when living in Daytona Beach, USA. From what I can remember I bought it as a sixpack at Publix Supermarket in Holly Hill the times that I bought it. Now it’s time to find out if it is as good as I remember it…

The beer is clear golden in colour with a fast disappearing head, but still decently carbonated. The taste is short with a malty start and a more sweet finish. Watery and very little aftertaste. Definitely not as good as I remember it.

Belgium

Belgium

Hoegaarden Wit/Blanche

Brewery: Brouwerij Hoegaarden
Style: Witbier
ABV: 4.9%
Country number: 2
Bought at: BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Daytona Beach, USA
Date: 21/03/2014
My Untappd rating: 3.75

Yet another week without a new country which means I’m reviewing country number 2. I can already now tell you that it will be like this for the next coming weeks. Unlike last weeks beer I know exactly where I bought this back in 2014, more precisely at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse in Daytona Beach, USA.

The beer is hazy light yellow in colour with a thin white head. It tastes sweet and wheaty with a citrus sourness to it. It has a fruity ending that lingers for a good amount of time. Really great to way to get a break from all the lagers I’ve tried for this blog.

Mexico

Corona Extra

Brewery: Cerveceria Modelo
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.5%
Country number: 1
Bought at: Somewhere in Daytona Beach, USA
Date: 11/03/2014
My Untappd rating: 2.75

So I have now reached a point that I thought I would reach long before now. I originally thought I would post this blogentry sometime last year. As I was starting to run short on beers from new countries last year I had the idea that I would review the 43 beers I had before starting this blog. First out is the very first beer that I checked in on Untappd back in March 2014. As I had this when I was living in Daytona Beach, USA I’m not 100% sure where I bought it but there is a big chance that it was bought at the Publix store in Holly Hill where we normally bought our groceries.

Not much to say about Corona Extra that you don’t already know I guess 😛 It is light golden in colour with a tiny white head. It is easily drinkable but compared with the many lagers I’ve tried so far it seems rather bland. It tastes watery with a small hint of malty bitterness.

Belarus

Belarus

Zhigulevskoe Svetloe

Brewery: Bretskoe Pivo
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.5%
Country number: 108
Bought at: Alko Feenoks in Tartu, Estonia. Massive thanks to Maits at RateBeer!
Date: 31/03/2018
My Untappd rating: 2.75

Back in January this year I was contacted by a user on the popular beer website RateBeer. He was a follower of this blog and kindly asked if I could get some beers for him at the Norwegian Vinmonopolet. No problem for me if he could supply me with some beers for this blog. A little over a week ago the box arrived from Estonia with this Belarussian beer inside. With the sponsored beer last week from Amstel Bright Nederland and this weeks beer from a fellow beerenthusiast from Estonia I’m surprised how far this blog has come since the start last year. Once again HUGE THANKS to everyone that has contributed and feel free to spread the word as many countries still remains to be crossed of the list.

The beer is clear golden in colour with a one centimeter white foam head. It tastes mild and sweet  with a tiny sour kick. No hop or malt taste and a very flat and tasteless ending.
