Beers of the World

One man's quest to conquer the world (of beer)

Brewery: Cerveceria Bucanero
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.9%
Country number: 59
Bought at: Bien Manger in La Canourgue, France and delivered to Jurys Inn in Gateshead, England
Date: 21/04/2017
My Untappd rating: 2.75

This beer is one of the 5 beers I bought at Bien Manger and got delivered to my hotel in Newcastle in England when I traveled there in March this year.

The beer is golden in colour with a minimal foam head that disappears as quickly as the lager smell.  Small hints of malt and sweetness in the taste before it fades over to water. Probably tastes a lot better when served under a palm tree in Cuba.

Dominican Republic

Brewery: Cervecería Nacional Dominicana
Style: Lager
ABV: 5%
Country number: 58
Bought at: Half Time Beverage in Mamaroneck, USA
Date: 14/04/2017
My Untappd rating: 3.50

Easter is often a time for travel and my Easter holiday this year is spent in New York. Of course an international city like The Big Apple has plenty of new countries for me to cross of the list, some easier to find than other. Presidente is rather easy to find in everything from small kiosks to large supermarkets. I, on the other hand, bought mine at Half Time Beverage all the way out in Mamaroneck as I had found out that this store had 5 other countries in stock as well.

The beer is clear golden in colour with a solid white foam head that lasts. It tastes somewhat flat but still refreshing with a malty finish.

Brasserie de Monaco Blanche Tradition

Brewery: Brasserie de Monaco
Style: Witbier
ABV: 4.7%
Country number: 57
Bought at: Vaaland 1889 in Bryne, Norway
Date: 08/04/2017
My Untappd rating: 3.00

This beer from Monaco is actually the first beer on this blog that is bought in Norway. In the Stavanger area, where I live, there are many great beer stores. One of these is Gulating Ølutsalg in the city centre, and as they are a verified venue on Untappd I found out they had this beer in stock. Sadly when I visited the shop the beer was nowhere to be seen. Luckily Det Gode Brygg in Sandnes and Vaaland 1889 in Bryne isn’t that far away. Both these stores have this beer in stock and I bought mine at the store in Bryne.

The beer is hazy and yellow in colour. It smells fruity and citrusy and tastes of wheat with a small hint of citrus, but the taste fades away too quickly to score higher with me.

Brewery: Société des Brasseries du Maroc
Style: Lager
ABV: 5%
Country number: 56
Bought at: Somewhere in Agadir, Morocco. Thanks to Espen Høiland!
Date: 31/03/2017
My Untappd rating: 2.75

Casablanca is one of the beers that I’ve had before that is not registrered on Untappd. I had this beer in the theme park Epcot in Orlando, USA back in 2013 when celebrating the Norwegian Constitution Day. You can read more about that experience here. When a friend of mine travelled to Morocco some weeks ago I did not hesitate to ask him if he could buy me a local beer for this blog, and the beer he brought with him back home was this can of Casablanca.

The beer is dark golden in colour with a minimal foam head. It has a very light taste with a malty and a little sour finish. Carbonation is weak and the beer seems flat too soon. Not at all like I remember it from Epcot.

South Korea

Brewery: HiteJinro Company
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.3%
Country number: 55
Bought at: Amathus in London, England. Thanks to Espen Wiig Nybø!
Date: 24/03/2017
My Untappd rating: 3.25

Another beer bought at Amathus by my brother on the same trip as he bought 1936 Bière and Moosehead Lager.

The beer is clear golden in colour with a foam head that doesn’t stay for long. It tastes very light with a malty finish. Quite a lot of carbonation that stays throughout the tasting experience.

Northern Ireland

Belfast Ale

Brewery: Whitewater Brewery
Style: Bitter
ABV: 4.5%
Country number: 54
Bought at: Bien Manger in La Canourgue, France and delivered to Jurys Inn in Gateshead, England
Date: 18/03/2017
My Untappd rating: 3.25

When I started planning this blog at the end of last year I started visiting quite a lot of online shops to see if they delivered to Norway. After some time I found the French  website This site offered 5 new countries I hadn’t had beer from. Sadly when I tried to order these I found out that even though the shop ships products to Norway they don’t ship beer to Norway. Back in January this year I won two tickets with bmi regional from Stavanger to Newcastle and I immediatly started researching if some of the online shops would deliver to a hotel in Newcastle. The answer from Bien Manger was yes, and as I opened the door to my room in Newcastle this weekend I was greeted by two boxes full of beer, one of them this Belfast Ale from Northern Ireland.

The beer is dark brown with a foam head that doesn’t disappear for a long time. It tastes mildly bitter with a hoppy finish.

Murree Beer

Brewery: Murree Brewery
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.7%
Country number: 53
Bought at: Mehfel Restaurant in Oslo, Norway
Date: 11/03/2017
My Untappd rating:

Back in January this year I intended to travel to Oslo for a work party. The blog was just a couple of weeks old at that time and I saw that as an excellent opportunity to explore the different new beer countries our capital had to offer. One of these countries was Pakistan. Sadly the work situation didn’t let me travel so when a new opportunity to travel to Oslo came up this weekend I was finally able to taste the rare Murree Beer.

The beer looks just like any other lager when it comes to colour and has a solid foam head. It tastes very smooth with a round finish.

San Miguel Pale Pilsen

Brewery: San Miguel Brewery
Style: Lager
ABV: 5%
Country number: 52
Bought at: Sari-Sari Mart in Copenhagen, Denmark
Date: 03/03/2017
My Untappd rating: 3-25

Just like Star Lager from Nigeria I knew exactly where to find San Miguel Pale Pilsen when I visited Copenhagen in December last year. The small shop also had Red Horse Beer from the Philippines, but I gave this to my brother as a thank you for supplying me with some of the beers for this blog.

The beer appears golden in colour with a solid amount of foam. Standard lager taste that dies out seconds after entering the mouth. No aftertaste whatsoever. Tastes dangerously like water.

1936 Bière

Brewery: Brauerei Locher
Style: Lager
ABV: 4.7%
Country number: 51
Bought at: Amathus in London, England. Thanks to Espen Wiig Nybø!
Date: 24/02/2017
My Untappd rating: 3-75

This beer was bought by my brother on the same London trip as he bought me the Canadian Moosehead Lager.

The beer is dark golden in colour. Tastes very smooth with some malty bitterness in the end. Like most lagers I’ve tasted on this blog it is easily drinkable, but without something special to put it apart from other lagers.
